If a powerful being suddenly appeared and offered you a strange box claiming that it contained the answers to many of the secrets of the universe, would you be interested? Assuming you could overcome your impulse to run and that you knew the creature was not diabolical, you would probably be quite anxious to take a look into the box. After all, who would not like to learn the mysteries of the cosmos and discover the blueprints for life if they were so readily available? - Kenneth Boa
Does God exist or is the material universe all that is, or ever was, or ever will be?
Modern science believes that the universe is not eternal in the past but had a beginning a finite time ago.
However, all man-devised theories cannot explain the origin of the universe or where the initial matter, energy, space and time came from.
No one has the final answer to the question "what happened before the Big Bang?". Could there have been a universe before the Big Bang? When astronomers talk about the Big Bang, they usually do not refer to the very beginning of the Universe (time zero), but to the incredibly hot and compact state of the Universe in the first couple of minutes of its existence. To some extent, this is because no one has a real clue about the true nature of time, let alone about the beginning of time. Most scientists simply ignore the question, as it seems to be too hard a nut to crack. In the end, we have to admit we’re ignorant about the true beginning of the Universe. And even if we lean towards an eternal multiverse with no real beginning at all, we don’t know why there is something (or, more to the point, why there is everything) instead of nothing. - Govert Schilling
Why is there something rather than nothing?
How did the universe begin?
Did the universe have a Creator?
What is the meaning of life?
What is the rational justification for the Christian world view?
God is the best explanation for the beginning of the universe. Faith is not belief without evidence, rather faith is trusting in what we have good reason to think is true. Everyday experience and scientific evidence confirm that if something begins to exist, it must have a cause. Something cannot come out of nothing without a supernatural cause. Since the universe had a beginning, it must have had a cause. The universe couldn't have caused itself to come into existence, because the universe would have had to exist before it existed. And since the universe couldn't have caused itself, it's cause must have been beyond the space-time universe. It must have been spaceless, timeless, immaterial, uncaused and unimaginably powerful. Much like...God. Therefore, to believe that God does exist is quite reasonable. - William Lane Craig
'... since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.' Romans 1:20
God is the best explanation for the fine-tuning of the universe for intelligent life.
The physical universe is put together with an ingenuity so astonishing that we cannot accept it merely as a brute fact.
There are many specific examples of fine-tuning. But to mention just two of them, if the strength of gravity was different by just one part in 10^60, there could be no stars and galaxies. A tiny bit stronger and all the matter would have collapsed back in on itself; a tiny bit weaker and the matter would have spread out too quickly for anything like galaxies or stars to be able to form. The cosmological constant governs how fast space itself expands or contracts. A tiny bit too strong and the universe would have collapsed back on itself, a tiny bit too weak and the universe would have expanded too quickly for galaxies to be able to form. It's estimated that the chance of the cosmological constant having a value that would permit life is roughly 1 in 10^53. - Dr. Max Baker-Hytch
The fine-tuning of the universe is not the result of chance, but rather, the deliberate choice of a rational mind who stands behind the universe, an extremely powerful and extremely wise designer.
'The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of his hands.' Psalm 19:1
God gives our lives meaning.
The living God has done more for us than the hypothetical being with the box. He has given us a written revelation that we can keep in our custody, examine, study and share. God loves us so much that He chose to let us in on some eternal secrets of the universe. The Bible, God's revelation, lets us know why men exist and how they should live. - Kenneth Boa
God has revealed to us how the Universe was created, it's purpose, our purpose and finality.
Apart from a revelation from the infinite-personal God, there is no hope of finding answers.
How did the Universe come into existence?
Christians do not have a problem with a universe that came from nothing physical. But the universe did not come from nothing. - John Lennox
God has revealed himself in the Bible, and he tells us that he is the Author of all things.
God created the universe out of nothing.
God spoke and it was done.
'In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth' Genesis 1:1
'By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.' Psalm 33:6,9
Why did God create the world and why did God create mankind?
God created the world and mankind to display his glory and for his glory.
'Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.' Isaiah 43:6b-7
The Universe is declaring the glory of God and the reason we exist is to see it, and be in awe of it, and glorify God because of it.
The existence of God is not argued in the Bible. It is assumed. God is knowable but at the same time incomprehensible. We can know Him but that does not mean that we can understand God fully or exhaustively. - Martyn Lloyd Jones
'... without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.' Hebrews 11:6
'Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!' Psalm 107:31
'Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.' Psalm 145:3
'Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.' Psalm 147:5
